[ QUOTE ]
It happened because the GW coach wanted it moved. The VHSL response to me was that "Castlewood isn't large enough to host a state game" I told her it was plenty big enough year before alst for TS!

[/ QUOTE ]

Castlewood isn't Big Enough-Bull!!! Looks like VHSL would be more "sensitive" to our Region considering the outcome of the State Football Game!! Here we go again!

Whatta bunch of crap! Another example of the VH$L helping out someone else. You think that they'd accomodate us? Not hardly.

GROUP A STATE QUARTERFINAL BASKETBALL SITE AND DATE CHANGES
Accommodations made in anticipation of large crowds

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Joyce Sisson, [email protected]

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA ? The Group A girls and boys basketball quarterfinal match-ups originally scheduled to take place at Castlewood High School on Saturday March 3 at 2:00 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. will instead take place at Virginia High School, game day and time unchanged. For the girls game, Gate City will play Radford and for the boys game, Gate City will play George Wythe.

High pre-game ticket sales prompted VHSL Assistant Director Joyce Sisson to make this change. "With a 2,500 seat gymnasium, Virginia is better equipped to handle the number of spectators that are expected to attend."

HAHA! When you Google "castlewood high school virginia gym capacity", the first link made available has this information given:

Russell County Public Schools Castlewood High School has an enrollment of 482 students in grades 8-12. ... Academic Team; New gym completed in 1994 (seating capacity of 2582) ...

Re: GC's games have been moved

I wonder if GW would rather play at Va. High because of the larger floor(college deminsions 94FT). To me the larger floor would benifit GW because they like to run and spread out which would make it more difficult for GC that play's hard nosed defense and like's to trap. Maybe they will get tired and it will bite them in the arse!

Personally, I don't think it will benefit George Wythe to play at Virginia High's gym. I have my reasons for thinking that, I guess we'll just have to see come Saturday!

Re: GC's games have been moved

I talked to more people after work. They told me that GW had already sold all their tickets and that GC had already sold most of their tickets! Not counting the Radford tickets

They were close to the seating compacity of Castlewood.

The gym at Castlewood would not seat everyone as we all know after the REGION D tournament. Therefore moving the game to VA HIGH, a larger facility and better seating.

It had nothing to do with another team whinning about where the game was to be played.

The gym at Castle wood does not seat more then 1,800 is what I was told today and Va High seats 2,500

I was at the games this weekend at Castelwood and that gym is much smaller then Va High. Everyone will have their own individual seat at VA HIGH as well, much more comfortable!

Re: GC's games have been moved

This is just another instance of the VHSL being unfair to a team from this area (most recently Burton). I remember a similar thing almost happened to GC in football when they played John Handly in a state championship gate. John Handly and the VHSL tried to pressure GC to change the location because GC's facilities were not up to their standards.

The word is that GW has a large student section. I hope everyone that can will go and support GC. I know we all don't always like each other, but there are certain times when we should support each other. I know I will be there.

Re: GC's games have been moved

The George Wythe coach has been trying since Monday, when Castlewood was announced, to have the game moved to VA High.

Well orginally Colobro wanted Va High is what I was told, but Vermillion wanted Castelwood.

It's a court..who cares anymore...let's enjoy these games!

Since it has been moved to VA High I may try to go. Just wondering if there will be tickets available at the gate? Have always enjoyed watching games at VA High- great venue.
